Official Google Phone Coming in Next Year!

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

TechCrunch reports that Google has begun testing a new Android device with their employees. The new device is said not to be just another Android-based phone, but the official Google Phone that has been rumored for some time. From TechCrunch:

Google is building their own branded phone that they’ll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding (Microsoft did the same thing with their first Zunes, which were built by Toshiba).

There won’t be any negotiation or compromise over the phone’s design of features – Google is dictating every last piece of it. No splintering of the Android OS that makes some applications unusable. Like the iPhone for Apple, this phone will be Google’s pure vision of what a phone should be.

This new phone is said to be a no-compromises version of an Android phone and has been reported to include these details/features:

- Sold as an unlocked GSM phone, so in the U.S. T-Mobile and possibly AT&T
- Android 2.1
- Uses Snapdragon chip and is “really, really fast”
- High resolution OLED screen
- Thinner than iPhone
- Two mics, one on the back to reduce background noise
- “Weirdly” large camera
- Touchscreen keyboard
- Voice to text for dictation

The Google Phone is said to be due for release in January 2010. The Snapdragon chip appears to be based on the same generation of ARM processor as the iPhone 3GS, though could be running at a higher clock speed. Apple, of course, is rumored to be working on their next generation iPhone, though it is not expected for release until mid-year.

Rumor: Google Phone is on the way

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

The mythical “Googlephone” that blogs have been drooling over has hit a new level in the rumored gadget-space. According to Gizmodo, the phone is, in fact, going to exist and is already in prototype form.

As we can expect in traditional Google fashion, this will be a well kept secret until Google wishes to release the device to the public. According to Gizmodo’s inside man, however, the mythical device sports a large LCD display and supposedly runs a version of the Android OS not yet seen by anyone on the outside of Google. But, we can all assume that Google will incorporate Google Voice at the heart of the device.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Coming Soon!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Coming Soon! With the release of the myTouch 3g from T-Mobile just a few weeks away, the buzz seems to be dampened by other smart phones. With just a few differences between the first T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch 3G I’m just not sure if it’s enough to rush out and purchase one.  The design of the new phone is a little more nimble.  The keyboard has gone away, the battery life has improved to 420 hours of stand by time, Microsoft Exchange support, the form factor is a little smaller but thats about it.  It still has the same 3.2inch display (320×480 resolution), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, 192mb Ram / 256mb Rom, and a 3.15MP autofocus camera.  Missing in the new phone is a 3.5mm audio jack and camera flash. The price point seems to be off as well.  With a $199 price tag, they are in the same arena as the iPhone 3gs and Palm Pre which I believe are still the leaders. Pre-orders began July 8th and myTouch fanatics should begin to see the phones arriving late July.
